Eligibility:-

To be eligible to appear in CLAT examination, a candidate should have obtained a senior secondary school or its equivalent certificate from a recognized board with not less than 45% marks in aggregate (40% in case of SC/ST candidate).Candidate who are appearing or have appeared in the 10+2 examination are also eligible to appear in the test. And should be below 20 years of age as on 1st July 2014 (22 years in case of SC/ST candidate)

 

*Pattern of the CLAT paper for admission to the undergraduate programme:-

      Total marks:- 200

     Number of multiple-choice question of one marks each: - 200

     Duration of examination:-2 hours

Note: There shall be a system of negative marking wherein 0.25 marks will be deducted for each of the wrong answer.

(1) English including comprehension: - The English section will test the candidates proficiency in English based on comprehension passages   and grammar. In the comprehension section, candidate will be assessed on their understanding of the passage given, its central theme and meaning of the words therein, etc. The grammar section will focus on correction of incorrect grammatical sentences, filling in the blanks in the given sentences with appropriate words, etc.                 

(2) General knowledge and current affairs:-As far as general knowledge is concerned, the candidates will be assessed on their general awareness including static general knowledge. Question on current affairs will test candidates’ knowledge on current affairs.

(3) Mathematics: - This section will test candidate’s knowledge on elementary mathematics, I.e. mathematics taught up to class X.

(4)Legal aptitude:-

This section will test student interest towards study of law, research aptitude and problem solving ability. Question asked may comprise of legal proposition/principle and a set of facts which they said proposition/principle has to be applied to arrive at a most reasonable conclusion. Such proposition may or may not be true in the real sense; yet the candidate will have to assume that the given propositions are true and answer the question accordingly

(5)Logical Reasoning:-

The purpose of the logical reasoning section is to test the candidate’s ability to identify patterns, logical links and rectify illogical arguments. It will include a wide variety of logical reasoning question such as syllogisms, logical sequences, analogies, etc.

The common law admission test (CLAT) is an all India entrance examination conducted on rotation by14 National law Universities (NLUs) for admissions to their under –graduate degree programmes.

Candidates shall be below Twenty (20) Years of age as on 1st July 2017 in case of all Unreserved/NRIs/NRI Sponsored categories candidates.
Candidates shall be below Twenty Two (22) years of age as on 1st July 2017 in case of SC/ST/ OBC/Specially Abled Persons (SAP) category candidates.
 
As regards minimum percentage of marks in qualifying examination (i.e., 10+2), the candidates must have secured:
 
  1. Forty five percent (45%) marks in case of candidates belonging to Unreserved /OBC /Specially Abled Persons (SAP) and other categories, and
  2.  Forty Percent (40%) marks in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST categories.
  3. Candidates who are appearing in the qualifying examination in March/April 2017 are also eligible for appearing in the CLAT-2017 online examination. However, they shall be required to produce an evidence of their passing the qualifying examination at the time of admission, failing which they shall lose their right to be considered for admission.
The result of qualifying examination (i.e., 10+2) shall be submitted by the candidate at the time of admission failing which the candidate shall be ineligible for admission to the Course.
In case of equal marks, the breaking of tie shall be by the following procedure and order as under: 
  1. (i) Higher marks in the section of legal aptitude in CLAT-2017 exam. 
  2. (ii)Higher age. 
  3. (iii) Computerised draw of lots
